If you're not Canadian, you might've never heard of Astron 6, because even being Canadian would'nt help in that regard. The outfit is a collective of 5 Canadian movie-making wannabes (said in the nicest possible way) who specialize in mostly online-posted video content that parodies the crappier side of 80s cinema landscape. Though their horizons are about to expand farther than their basement office since the folks at Troma -veterans of the no-budget horror film- fell in like with the gang's fake trailer for Father's Day and gave them a whopping $10K to make it a full feature film. Which premièred to high acclaim last October at the The Toronto After Dark Festival. And is already available through illegal download. Except on Megaupload.
So while Father's Day will soon enjoy a limited theatrical run just for fun, it will be accompanied by the gang's latest celebration of ultra-mediocrity, a parody of the numerous Star Wars shoestringed rip-offs that made late-night cable TV a laugh-a-minute fest during the late-70s/early 80s. And I REALLY wish someone who pass the hat for them to turn that vintage Atari game into a feature film - get me Uwe Boll on the phone!
So without further ado, here is the (fake) trailer for Star Raiders!
